Abstract

As global urbanization accelerates, dense metropolitan centers face an unprecedented housing crisis characterized by acute affordability gaps and spatial segregation. Historically, the provision of affordable housing in high-density urban environments has been compromised by stigmatizing aesthetics, poor material longevity, and alienation from the broader civic fabric. This paper investigates how architectural design, urban planning, and policy intersect to redefine low-income housing as a catalyst for social equity. By analyzing contemporary typologies, participatory design methodologies, structural modularity, and environmental performance, this research argues that aesthetic and spatial dignity are not byproducts of luxury, but fundamental prerequisites for sustainable urban equity.
