Digital Archiving Policy
Journal of Current Research and Studies (JCR) is dedicated to the long-term preservation of all published content. Our archiving practices are based on the Public Knowledge Project (PKP), which provides a reliable and secure infrastructure for managing and preserving academic content. Below are the key aspects of our digital archiving policy:
1. PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN)
JCRS participates in the PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN), which offers a free, decentralized, and distributed preservation service for Open Journal Systems (OJS) users. This ensures that all articles published in the journal are automatically preserved and archived in multiple geographically distributed locations.
Through the PKP PN, we:
- Ensure that copies of published articles are stored in secure, independent archives.
- Guarantee the preservation of content, even if the journal ceases to operate in the future.
2. LOCKSS and CLOCKSS Integration
To complement the PKP PN, JCR also integrates with:
- LOCKSS (Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe): This distributed archiving system allows participating libraries to preserve the journal’s content, providing a safeguard against data loss and maintaining access to the scholarly record.
- CLOCKSS (Controlled LOCKSS): CLOCKSS offers a similar service with the added benefit of open access restoration in the event that content becomes unavailable.
These systems ensure that multiple copies of the journal’s content are securely stored and accessible for the long term.
3. Institutional Repositories and Self-Archiving
JCR encourages authors to deposit their published articles in institutional repositories. Authors are permitted to archive:
- Preprint versions: Before peer review.
- Postprint versions: After peer review and acceptance but before formatting by the journal.
- Published versions: Final, formatted articles after publication.
By allowing self-archiving, we support wider dissemination of research and ensure that the content is accessible from multiple sources.
4. Backups and Data Security
JCR ensures regular backups of the journal's content and metadata on secure servers. These backups are designed to protect against accidental data loss and ensure the continued accessibility of the journal’s content.
5. Open Access and Permanent Availability
As an open access journal, JCR is committed to ensuring that all articles are freely and permanently available online. This guarantees that research is not only archived but also easily accessible to readers without any restrictions, promoting greater global dissemination of knowledge.
