Abstract

This paper examined the election and voting pattern in Nigeria with specific reference to 2019 Governorship election in Gombe State. Rational Choice Theory was used in writing the report of the study. The research utilises both primary and secondary sources where four hundred (400) questionnaires were administered to obtain data from three Local Government Area selected for the study, using multi stage sampling techniques in selecting the sample size of voters. This data generated in this research was quantitatively presented and analysed using tables and percentage. Study adopted quantitative means of data collection. The findings of the research empirically proved that voting pattern in Gombe State is more greatly influenced by lack of credible candidate and intraparty conflict than cross carpeting issue and godfatherism. The study therefore, recommended among others that, there is need for public awareness by proper authorities on the risk or threat of voting based intraparty conflict or lack of credibility consideration. Therefore, voting some candidates is supposed be based on credibility and just of contestant than godfatherism and cross carpeting.
